Women in Construction

We have recently expanded the Connaught team, and within this, we have welcomed our first female employees Nicola, Amy, and Maisie. As an equal opportunity advocate Connaught are delighted to promote the growth and development of women in construction and encourage greater diversity within the industry.

According to Gov.uk, only 13% of those working in construction are women. While more women are now considering construction as a trade, it is clear that there is more that can be done to achieve a better gender balance.

Mick Rowland, Business Improvement Manager at Connaught, said:

“We are thrilled to have welcomed the new female employees on board the Connaught team. We are pleased to have a diverse working environment”

Nicola Stansfield is our Construction Secretary and was the first female employee welcomed to Connaught. She is responsible for supporting the Management & Site teams  and assisting our Finance Manager. Amy Mitchell is our Marketing Assistant, she joined us back in July and assists our Business Development Manager with marketing and social media duties. And finally, Maisie Hollinger is our Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, she is the newest member of the team and the first female to regularly visit our sites. She works under the expert guidance of Jonathan Holton our Senior Quantity Surveyor.

We asked Nicola, Amy, and Maisie about their experience at Connaught and how they have found the construction industry, here’s what they had to say:

“Working at Connaught has been exciting and I am delighted to be able to offer my support to the management team. I am new to the construction industry, but I have not let that stop me. Everyone has been so welcoming which has made it less intimidating being the first female in the office. I can’t wait to see what the future holds“- Nicola.

“Working for Connaught has been a great experience, the role and industry were new to me, but I have taken them in my stride and enjoyed every minute of it. I had not thought about working in the construction industry before, but everyone has been welcoming and I would highly recommend working in the construction industry which has been very rewarding.”- Amy.

“I was thrilled to join the Connaught team. This has been a new challenge for me, and I was unsure about the construction industry to start with. However, I have gained lots of valuable skills during my apprenticeship, it has made me see the industry differently. I look forward to building upon my knowledge.”- Maisie.

‘Women into construction’ are an independent, non-profit organisation, that promotes gender equality in construction and their vision is to change the face of construction and normalising the position of women in the construction industry.
