Women In Construction Week 2022

Women in Construction Week aims to share the achievements of women within the construction workplace. This year, the week is held from the 6th until the 12th of March 2022 and is organised by the National Association of Women. The week is celebrated annually aiming to break stigmas surrounding the construction industry, as well as highlight the vital role women can play in construction and celebrate their growing roles within the field. This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias.

As we know, construction is male dominated, with women reportedly only making up 13% of the industry. Thankfully this number has risen in previous years and stereotypes for gender-specific roles are slowly declining. Women in Construction Week is in place to encourage more diversity within the industry and make construction more appealing to women.

Connaught is an equal opportunity advocate and is proud to be showing our support for the week. With this in mind, we would like to celebrate our Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, Maisie Hollinger. She is a dedicated member of the team who started with us back in September last year and was our first female employee to regularly visit our sites.

Maisie works closely with our Senior Quantity Surveyor Jonathan Holton and is a key part of the Connaught team.

We have asked Maisie about her experience so far within the construction industry, specifically Connaught. Here’s what she has to say:

“I am loving my apprenticeship, getting to learn the job hands-on has been a big bonus for me. Everyone at Connaught has been so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They have helped ease me into the role well. I had never considered working in construction before; I knew it was very male-dominated and I found that rather daunting. But overall, I would say that didn’t end up fazing me. I’d say be confident and ask for help when you need it. I would recommend a career in construction to anyone”
